A lot of questions were asked about Conor McGregor’s fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 196, but what exactly does that mean for Conor McGregor?
UFC president Dana White revealed the truth in an interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com and added, “We were all hoping that this would be a moment where Conor gets back in the Octagon, and we were going to go into the fight and we thought it would be exciting, and it was.”
McGregor, the interim featherweight champion and current light heavyweight champion of the UFC, has been in the middle of an ugly fight with Diaz.
McGregor was pulled from UFC 196 after two rounds, after which he tested positive for the steroid Clenbuterol.
The results of his test came back positive for Clenoxetine, which was also the reason why he withdrew from the UFC title fight against Diaz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
McGregore was not scheduled to fight again until May, but that didn’t stop him from getting back in his Octagon.
After McGregor’s bout with Diaz, he fought a few more times, but he never went on to win the lightweight title.
The main card features a welterweight bout between Anthony Pettis and Demetrious Johnson, which will be the main event of UFC 198.
The winner of that fight will face Demetrius Soares, who won the lightweight championship with a third-round TKO of James Vick on May 5.
The welterweights are scheduled to compete at UFC 198, which takes place at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, May 15.
