You’ve probably heard the saying, “Don’t bring a cushion.”
You’ve heard it a lot.
It’s a sentiment that comes from an abundance of research, but it’s not always true.
There’s a reason the term couch cushion has become synonymous with couch cushioned comfort.
The couch cushing industry is big and fast, and while many people have cushions on their couches at home, they’re mostly made out of rubber, nylon, or vinyl.
And while cushions like these are great, they can come at a cost.
It doesn’t make sense to spend $20 or $30 for a good cushion if it won’t last for a year.
“It can be hard to know where to start,” says Emily Klenko, who leads marketing at a company called Aptivi.
“You don’t want to waste money.”
What are the pros and cons of couch cushying?
First, couch cushings aren’t as sturdy as you might think.
There are no firm supports or padding, so cushions can be easily bent or torn.
They also can be a little expensive.
Plus, the cushioning usually doesn’t last a year, so you’ll want to buy new cushions whenever you need them.
Plus the materials and designs are usually less durable than you’d expect.
Plus there’s usually a ton of variation.
“We make cushioning that you can customize and that’s why it’s so great,” Klenkoff says.
“There’s nothing wrong with that, but you also have to make sure you’re making the right product.”
Pros: You can buy a variety of cushions, and they can last for up to five years.
You can customize the cushion design for each person, and the cushion will look great on your sofa.
Plus cushioning can last up to three years.
Cons: They tend to be expensive.
If you need to use the cushions more than once a month, you might want to think about a different cushion.
Plus you’ll need to replace cushions if they break.
They may also need to be replaced with a new cushion.
Klenkso says she has been using the Aptiva cushion for five years, but she’s found that the company has changed the design of their cushions since she first tried them out.
That means she’ll need new cushings for two more years.
Pros: They’re durable, but the materials aren’t the most durable.
You might want a new pair each year.
If it’s one of the cheaper cushions in the market, it might last a little longer. Cons
